What to Expect from Electric Vehicles in Future

Electric vehicles are the future of transportation industry. Here is everything that we can expect from electric vehicles in future.

The worldwide automobile industry has witnessed many innovations in last 20 years. Thanks to the advent of various technologies in the industry, the focus is now on producing cars with top-class safety, increased fuel economy, exceptional design, great comfort and convenience without costing a bomb. Another area of interest is to produce green cars, which don’t use petroleum products and are environment friendly.

It is believed that Electricity is the world’s silent workhorse for a century. And yes, electricity is also believed to completely replace petroleum products in next 20 years. Electricity has brought a true revolution in the automobile industry with the introduction of EVs or electric vehicles. Not only cars, but the aviation experts are also moving ahead with the idea of an electric airplane.

Electric vehicles are the future

The electric power is a big winner in the transportation industry today. And it holds a very big and crucial importance in the future as well. With the introduction and huge success of electric vehicles, the future of transportation is believed to rely completely on them. Electric vehicles have earned huge popularity and certainly a mind space as well. They are environment friendly, cleaner and yet loaded with great features.

In the last few years, it has been noted that the customer adoption of electric vehicles is much higher than that of hybrid vehicles. Also, as the technologies improve, infrastructure improves, battery performance becomes bigger and better, electric vehicles are surely going to be the winner of the future. With advancement in manufacturing technologies, we could have more affordable electric vehicles with longer driving ranges soon.

What to Expect in Future?

The electric car segment is expected to mark major and remarkable growth in next 10 to 15 years. It is expected that the adoption rate of cars with full EV variant, hybrid and plug-in hybrid will increase dramatically. Additionally, safety standards will reach new levels. Self-driving or driverless cars coupled with electric technologies have the opportunity to be a transformative technology. As their adoption goes on a larger and wider scale, new automotive technologies are expected to make an entry.

Affordable Electric Cars

Petroleum prices are rising, but the battery costs are dropping fast. More and more industry experts believe that battery prices will drop magically in next decade, and EVs will enter mass market with pocket-friendly price tags.

Björn Nykvist and Måns Nilsson, scientists and authors of a scientific study published in Nature Climate Change on falling battery prices stated, “EVs may be able to compete directly with petrol-driven cars on cost a lot sooner than most people think.”

Battery prices are “on a trajectory to make unsubsidized electric vehicles as affordable as their gasoline counterparts in the next six years,” Bloomberg New Energy Finance projects. “That will be the start of a real mass-market liftoff for electric cars.”

With great improvement and reducing cost of manufacturing of batteries, electric motors and other electronic systems and equipments, the cost of buying an electric vehicle will reduce dramatically.

Longer Driving Ranges

Automobile brands like Tesla, GM and Chevrolet are investing a huge capital and time on developing bigger and better electric vehicles with good driving ranges.  With improvement in battery performance, we can soon expect power-packed electric cars with great driving ranges in coming few years.

Currently, an average electric car can travel 160 kilometers on a single charge. The Tesla Model S has a superb driving range of 335 miles. The Chevrolet Bolt can run 200-miles on a single charge. And even the next generation Nissan Leaf is going to offer a good range. Volkswagen and Toyota are also working on their respective electric car projects.

With so many giant players in the electric car segment, we would be able to see some of the best electric cars of the decade soon.

Alternate of Charging Stations

The lack of electric car charging stations is one of the biggest challenges faced by the industry today. However, the massive improvement in manufacturing technologies, extended driving ranges, better battery performance and quick charging time will bring an alternate to public charging stations. This will also help to boost consumer adoption of electric vehicles in countries like India.

Better Safety

Soon, safety features like blind spot warning and adaptive cruise control will become standard in all electric vehicles. This will provide an additional aid to the drivers of the electric vehicles. Automobile brands are leaving no stones unturned to produce powerful yet safe electric cars. And hence, we would soon meet upgraded and extremely safe electric cars in next few years.
